Cellulite Reduction Q & A

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a normal, harmless condition that causes lumpy, dimpled skin, usually around the thighs and buttocks. Men and women sometimes describe cellulite as having an orange peel or cottage cheese texture.

The condition results when fat cells accumulate and push up between the tough cords of connective tissue under the skin. The tough cords press downward as the fat cells simultaneously push upward between them.

Women are more prone to cellulite than men because fat tends to accumulate in ladies’ hip and thigh areas after puberty. Other risk factors that influence cellulite include:

  • Weight gain
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Pregnancy
  • Loss of elasticity from aging
  • Genetics

Cellulite doesn’t require treatment, but Dr. Mustafa can help reduce the appearance of cellulite if it bothers you.

How can I treat cellulite?

Many topical products and gadgets profess their ability to eliminate cellulite, but most are ineffective or temporary at best. However, two of the most reliable non-invasive ways to treat cellulite at the source are weight loss and radiofrequency (RF) treatment.

Weight loss

Weight loss causes your fat cells to shrink, so it may reduce the appearance of cellulite. The connective tissues and fat cells don’t disappear, but the bulging effect from the fat cells may become less pronounced as they shrink.

Radiofrequency treatment

Radiofrequency treatment uses the latest technology to smooth out the skin’s appearance. The device uses heat to stimulate collagen production, so you can avoid lasers and injections.

How does radiofrequency treatment work?

Dr. Mustafa and his team use the CynoSure® TempSure™ Envi system to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Radiofrequency energy heats deep into the layers of the skin to encourage collagen regeneration, which results in tighter, smoother skin.

During a TempSure session, your aesthetician runs a handpiece from the console over the treatment area. The surface temperature controller ensures comfort, and the massage-like warming effect should even feel therapeutic.

Each TempSure session lasts between 30 minutes and an hour, and the treatment requires no downtime. You can schedule the treatment during an open hour in your schedule and reap smoother-looking skin without disruption.
